About Kashgar
World fusion from the Limestone City!
Marcus Taylor - composer, guitarist and band leader
Born from the restless vision of guitarist-‐composer Marcus Taylor, Kashgar presents a unique and powerful musical statement. Kashgar's closely crafted original tracks weave together jazz sensibilities, a classic rock edge and an exciting range of world influences. Together they create an encompassing and innovative sound. From dramatic Indian rhythmic passages that invoke the Mahavishnu Orchestra to fiery guitar-‐Hammond exchanges that would fit comfortably in the mainstream of progressive rock, Kashgar presents a refreshingly innovative take on the future of jazz-‐fusion.
Kashgar: the Studio Band
In the studio, Kashgar draws on the longstanding contributions of Ben Bell (keys) and James Chapman (drums), both based in the UK.
Ben Bell (keys)
Ben Bell is the multi-instrumentalist genius behind progressive rock project Patchwork Cacophony and keyboard player with Gandalf's Fist. On Kashgar he plays a range of hammond, wurli and other organs, and occasionally throws in some backing vocals. His dynamic solo playing is a standout feature of every Kashgar album.
James Chapman (drums)
James Chapman is an accomplished drummer who works as a session musician, educator, and studio engineer in Canterbury, UK. You can see his playing and gear reviews here.
Kashgar: The Live Band
As of 2025, Kashgar has a brand new live lineup and is playing shows around the Kingston area and beyond.
Eric Brousseau (drums)
Eric Brousseau began drumming as a teenager and has been playing in bands on the Kingston scene since 2009.
Eric’s projects have covered genres from Celtic to country, to Motown, funk, rock, and blues. The technical challenges and World Fusion vibe of Kashgar have become a passion project.
Eric’s favourite part of playing music is the connection between the musician and the audience. “When the whole room is moving and grooving in sync with the music you’re playing - that’s the magic!”
Alberto Garcia (percussion)
Alberto García is not only Kashgar's conga player but also a master luthier specializing in the making of violins, violas, and cellos of the highest quality.
Originally from Mexico and born into a family of musicians, his life has always been surrounded by music, which nurtured his vocation from an early age.
With more than 27 years of experience perfecting his craft, he founded Virtuos Violins in Kingston, Ontario, in 2010—a workshop recognized for its excellence and attention to detail. His work has earned international recognition in Mexico, Canada, Spain, the United States, and Colombia.
He is also the founder and percussionist for Los Garcías, a Latin music ensemble established in 2020 with the mission of sharing and celebrating Latin culture in Canada.
Keenan Weaver (bass)
Passion for music has taken many forms throughout his life, from highland drumming to jazz sax to parodies on piano, but Keenan found his groove playing bass in Kashgar.
A tech by trade and a musician at heart, Keenan is on a life-long quest to communicate and connect through the universal language of music.
Music moves him, and he hopes the rhythms and funk he brings to Kashgar help move you too.
Steffen Davidson (sax)
Steffen has played tenor sax throughout highschool and Queen's university, primarily through the lens of jazz. His playing takes inspiration from jazz sax players like Joe Henderson and Coleman Hawkins, as well as artists and producers in the hip hop sphere such as Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, and Mac Miller.
